What Am I?
I say "what" rather than "who" because I want to understand not merely who the guy is I see in the mirror but what I am in relation to the universe and in relation to the human race. Obviously I'm different. Am I a conundrum? A riddle? A contradiction? Maybe. Or maybe I'm just a nut who likes to blab. Who knows? If you're one of the lucky few to stumble upon this little collections of 0's and 1's you'll have to make up your own mind. If you figure it out, let me know, ok?
The movie
iRobot is a fun, escapist sci-fi film about robots taking over the world to protect the human race. Will Smith (Detective Spooner) shares the spotlight with a robot named Sonny. Sonny is a different kind of robot. He's not merely the result of "clever programming" but seems to have developed sentience. He is self-aware. He was created to help Dectective Spooner thwart the master-robot and prevent the world from being taken over.
So I love sci-fi. And I particularly like this movie because I identify with Sonny. Sonny and I have quite a bit in common. We're different. We're progressive. We're confused. And we're dedicated to our mission and our creator. Of course I'm a guy and he's a robot. His creator built him in a lab and my Creator made me in a little different way (at least, I think he did!). Sonny is a movie character. I live in the real world.
Sonny is the figment of someone's imagination. I am real. In my world real people live and die and work and struggle and play and cry and laugh. But still, it's a fantasy world. Our world is what it is because of the way we view it. The Universe is huge, beautiful, impossible to comprehend or understand. All of us create a smaller world to live in, one that we're comfortable with. The whole big wide universe is too scary, too unknown.
The thing that makes me so different is that I have never been comfortable living within my own world. I have never been content with what I've been told about this world and the universe beyond. There has to be more... and more to it. So I continually explore.
I am different. I am unique. Like Sonny. Unlike Sonny I'm made of flesh and bone. I don't have the luxury of time and I can't go to a shop for new parts. Time is running out. I'd better get busy. Catch you later!
